Music Video Analysis
Johnny Cash - Hurt

The song is conceptually about an old drug addict, who has lost everything but wishes that he could start again.
The music video is set in a large, old fashioned yet grand house. This shows the wealth Johnny Cash. It also has a grainy effect at parts, to make the film look aged.
It includes archive footage of himself throughout his career, some of the footage would have been his own home videos because music videos weren't as big as they are today.

It provides a lot of insight into Cash's life such as "goes away in the end" refers to the people he has lost. The film cuts to a shot of his mother, whom he obviously cared very deeply for. Also, throughout the video, shots of religious images were shown which suggests that he was a religious

man. However, it also suggests that even religion could help him turn down, or give up drugs, so how deep is belief in God is questionable.
A shot of the American flag, shows how much his music revolutionised America, but also shows that the American dream can happen. After, there is a shot of a museum dedicated to Johnny Cash, which also proves his importance to American culture and history, however later on it becomes clear that it have been neglected and out of business. To show that he has been forgotten and neglected by the very country that essentially "made" him.

The last shot is of Johnny Cash's first live performance, which sums up his rise and fall from stardom but also how a man can change from innocence to drug addict.
