Task 2: Research Into Existing Products

Music Video Analysis 3

30 Seconds To Mars - From Yesterday

"From Yesterday" shot entirely in the People's Republic of China, in the Forbidden City and the Emperor Qin palace.

The 30 Seconds To Mars music video took a staggering amount of money and time to film and produce, especially give the location and costumes used. The group tend to leave the meaning of their videos up to the audience to come to their own conclusions. Basically there is no absolute interpretation of their music video, which is very usual for a music video. This is because music videos tend to help the audience understand and connect with the music through the video, its a visual aid. However, 30 Seconds to Mars tend to break that code quite often, particularly in their album "A Beautiful Lie.

The official version of the music video is a short film, it lasts 7 minuets 25 seconds, and contains moments with no music just acting. This way it gives some indication of how a modern 21st century rock group ended up in that era. The music video it's self doesn't contain a lot of special effects, but what it lacks in special effects it makes up in in shear extraordinary footage and superior editing.

The shots are generally very quick and flow backwards and forward from the performance to the narrative, which is a convention of rock music videos. The main focus of the band is place on the lead singer, Jared Leto, actually there are very few whole band shots.
