Task 2: Research Into Existing Products

Music Video Analysis 2

Rihanna - Disturbia

This song is conceptually about a fictional disease that affects the mind and makes the individual loose control over their own mind.

The music video is set in a dark buildings, possibly a converted club or factory. It's dark but modern showing that the disease affects people in this age, not in the past.

Gradually through the song the audience see a decrease in her sanity due to Disturbia. At points during the performance and narrative music video, the audience sees Rihanna in a unhealthy
psychological mental state. She appears to be in a trace which also tells the audience that the "disease of the mind" is supernatural.

"Nothing heard, nothing said, can't even speak about it" this quote gives the impression that it's controlling you an can't cry for help or warn others. Which is supported by a quote later on "it can control you".

The music video has been consrtucted, using a variety of different shots and editing. Throughout the music video it uses a lot of "cross cuts" to emphasize to the audience the sanity of the disease. It also contains split screens, a rewind and fast-forward for some parts, a lot of costumes.

The last shot of the music video is the same as the beginning given the sense that a circular narrative has taken place.
